Tile Association
I would only say, all members may not have be skill tested. New members can be members but yet to do the skills test.
Maybe wording should read, all members are skill trained or working towards attaining this distinction.

As for the detail that you mention Toots, I agree but the statement below is a description of the PTFAs main purpose and is primarily aimed at the consumer. No doubt we’ll need to nail in more detail when it comes to writing the constitution / website……

The Professional Tile Fixers Association (PTFA) is a trade association representing tile fixers in the UK. Its primary role is to support its members by promoting high standards of training and workmanship. Members are skill tested by the association and ongoing training is encouraged and promoted. Members are also required to hold adequate levels of liability insurance.
The aim of the PTFA is to also reassure the general public that by contracting one of our members to undertake work in this specialised field, they can be confident of receiving the very highest level of service.
Forgive me for asking but why corporate & accredited if you have passed a test you have passed it, espesially as the test will probably be based on the way PITT train their tilers which is why i assume the pitt trained tilers will be the corporate members not having to do the skills test, is that not eliteism. Surely you would only need the ones that have passed and the ones yet to take the test then up date.
If i am right about the type of membership on offer, the time served tilers would surely take offence to this as you are doubting their ability. Also if coporate membership is only open to pitt trained tilers, who is gonna tell Danny Brant that he has to take a test to join?
Hyperthatically! If you have a guy who has been tiling for 9 years his sole source of work is through recommendation, never had a complaint, can produce references from customers has tackled most types of tiling and above all is self taught, but possibly will buckle under the pressure of a skills test, how would this be dealt with?
The skills test would be a test that is agreed by the association, possibly based upon PITT skills but also in consultation with other training centres.
And yes, Danny Brant and such people would have to take test to become an accredited member. The association is vouching for accredited members and if they wish to be accredited they have to follow the associations procedures, regardless of who they are.
The skills test is still in its infancy. At the meeting there was lots of discussion as to its format but no clear answer. I believe it should be a topic for discussion at the next meeting.
Jase suggested that we open new threads for new topics so I think this debate - membership criteria - deserves it’’s own thread. Lets get some opinions on board…
