Most people are under a false conception that all tiling is the same; well if you are one of them people then it is wrong. With natural stone tiling there are a lot more aspects involved.
Firstly the choice of stone – Travertine, Granite, Slate, Quartz, Limestone etc. You need to choose the best stone which suits your day to day living. If you live somewhere where the floor is going to get walked on with muddy/dirty shoes then something like Travertine is probably not the best choice as even after you have sealed the floor with a sealer it still takes a lot of care and maintenance to keep it looking good.
Secondly you’re adhesive. This is another area where people think any old adhesive will do but you need to take in to consideration do you have under floor heating, how big are your tiles and even what colour adhesive (white or grey) is the right for the job.
Third your sealer. There are a lot of sealers on the market some good and some bad; you need to choose the right one for you. Do you have a stone that you want to darken and change the colour slightly, do you want to keep the stone looking as natural as possible, and you can even make some stones have a glossy look once sealed?
The most important thing to think about before you have even thought of what Natural stone you want is your tiler. Some tilers out there won’t think twice about walking in to your property and tiling your floor or walls with natural stone the same way they tile with a basic ceramic tiles, which gives a high risk of tile failure. That’s why Home Interiors take pride in all our work and like to sit down with our customers and go through the pros and cons before we even have put a tile on your wall or floor.
